Rabbit Cage Size
If you plan on buying a cage for a single rabbit, you will need to find one that provides at least 3 square feet of living space. If you have two rabbits, then a you’ll need a cage with at least 6 square feet of internal space. Finally, three rabbits will need a 9 square foot cage at a minimum. If you plan on keeping more than three rabbits, you can refer to the rabbit cage calculator located above in order to figure out what size cage or hutch you will need for your rabbit.
Rabbit Housing Requirements
If you want a more detailed answer to the question of how much space does a rabbit need in its cage, you will need to take your rabbits size into consideration. In order to get a good estimate of a rabbit’s overall size, you will have to weigh them.
Once you weigh your rabbit then you can either use the rabbit cage calculator located above, or you can use the rabbit cage size guide below to find out how large your rabbit cage will need to be. The following chart is derived from the Animal Welfare Act (Title 7, Chapter 54, Section 2131-2159).

Of course, the sizes recommended above are just the minimum cage size you will need to safely and humanely house a rabbit. Keeping a rabbit in a cage this size is perfectly acceptable if you have limited space, just make sure you let your rabbit out of their cage every day in order to stretch their legs.
If you don’t have much room to spare inside your house, then a hutch is a much better option. If you plan on getting a hutch then the minimum recommended RSPCA rabbit hutch size for 2 to 3 rabbits is 9 to 10 square feet.

You & Me Living The Dream Small Animal Habitat
The You & Me Living The Dream Small Animal Habitat (Buy Online) is an affordable indoor rabbit cage that offers an ample amount of space. This cage has an internal living area of just about 5 square feet. With that much floor space, this cage is large enough to comfortably house one adult rabbit, or it can be used as a temporary cage for two bunnies until they are placed in separate cages.

Once you open the box, all you will need to do in order to assemble the cage is snap and lock the two pieces of the litter pan together, and then simply attach the wire portion of the cage.
The litter pan also has built-in mounting holes for optional casters which will make this large indoor cage much easier to move. You also get a good sized food dish with this cage which is a nice added bonus. Along with that, you will also get two large plastic shelves and two wavy metal ramps.
The wavy design of the ramps will make it easy for your rabbits to hop up onto any one of the two included shelves, and once they get up there they can lay down and take a nap or check out what’s going on outside of their cage.
